To promote `Beti Bachao' movement, a barber offers free haircut and shave to fathers of newborn girls

This barber from Beed district is promoting the 'Beti Bachao' movement in his own unique way. He offers free haircut and shave to fathers of newborn girls because the Beed district in Maharashtra is well known for its female foeticide, illegal sex determination tests and a skewed sex ratio.
In spite of leading a hand-to-mouth existence, this barber is offering the free haircut and shaving services to fathers of newborn girls for six months - and, also to tonsure the babies free of cost when they turn one, as is customary.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 16 January 2017.
This 29-year-old barber has always had girls for company as he grew up with four sisters and he has a one-year-old daughter of his own - he therefore put up a board outside his matchbox-sized salon announcing the free services. His 'scheme' began on January 1 and so far, he has given the free services to 15 customers.
His normal charge is Rs 50 for a haircut and shave.
He earns about Rs 10,000 a month from his shop and walks three km one way from his house to his shop as he has not been able to save enough to buy a bike.
