Delhi Metro will now allow women to carry knives with them for safety

Women who are traveling by Delhi Metro can now carry with them small knives for safety purposes. This has been authorized by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) who have also allowed lighters and matchboxes in metro trains.
This has been reported in thehindu.com dated 7 January 2017.
Women travelers can now carry knives with them and the knives should be less than four inches long. Such knives are not a threat to security but is required by women for their protection.
As to lighters and matchboxes in metro trains - hundreds of these items are seized from passengers daily during screening. Hence, one passenger will be allowed to carry only one lighter or matchbox. Moreover, certain tools have also been struck off the list of items restricted from being carried in metro trains. This decision was taken after laborers frequently complained of inconvenience caused to them while traveling in metros since they have to carry their tools with them when they go for work.
