After 146 years, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus will close for good

"The Greatest Show on Earth" was the circus of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and it is finally closing down after 146 years in May 2017. It was the iconic American spectacle and has been felled by a number of factors like drop in attendance combined with high operating costs, changing public tastes and prolonged battles with animal rights groups.
This has been reported in nzherald.co.nz dated 15 January 2017.
The circus had exotic animals, flashy costumes and death-defying acrobats, and has been a staple of entertainment in the United States since the mid-1800s. The troupes traveled around America by train, and won over the audiences with the sheer scale of entertainment and exotic animals. However, as the 20th century went on, kids began to lose interest because there were alternatives like movies, television, video games and the internet.
The company broke the news to circus employees after shows in Orlando and Miami. As of now, Ringling Bros. has two touring circuses this season and will perform 30 shows between now and May after which it will close down.
