Maharashtra government announces Tejasvini buses exclusively for women during peak hours

Maharashtra government has announced introduction of 100 buses exclusively for women commuters in the city, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli and Nagpur - these will be known as Tejasvini buses and will ply only during peak hours - namely, from 7 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 9 pm.
These are being introduced because of a large population of working women. Such buses would ease the daily commute for them. The government will soon take a decision on the allocation of these buses in each city.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 9 November 2016.
These 100 buses is the first phase of the launch and, subsequently, a total of 300 such buses. Incidentally, the Tejasvini buses had been promised in the state budget in March and Rs 50 crore was allocated for the entire project.
As indicated by a senior BEST official, first pilot runs would be conducted on arterial routes before taking a decision. The same buses could be used as general buses during non-peak hours.
Moreover, there are plans to recruit women conductors for each bus. At present, BEST has 12 woman conductors, mainly on buses from Wadala depot.
