The government has constituted Shivalik (Dhalaudhar) Tourism Development Board to exploit the huge potential of sub-mountainous regions along Shivalik hills in Punjab and, with the entry of private players, property prices are skyrocketing.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 24 March 2016.
Right now, the state government has begun developing nearly 300 plus acres of land, including two islands of Kulara and Musharba, spread across in nearly 17 and 3 acres respectively while nearly 2.5 acres Mango Island was being promoted by a private developer.
It seems land of Kulara, Jatoli, Palangi, Atharwan and Chibarh villages had been submerged during construction of Ranjit Sagar dam and the government was now developing land patches of about 531 meter.
The developer of Mango Island has indicated that he wants to start yacht tourism in the lake. Already people come down to the sandy bank of Ranjit Sagar lake to get an experience of a beach in Punjab. The islands had already been connected to mainland and by June the lake would again fill with water. The government had, in the past, held an investors meet to draw attention and focus on the development of islands by major hotel chains in India.
