How to plan a perfect holiday - 12 easy steps

Right from the days of Christopher Columbus, people want to travel and are curious to understand their surroundings. Once upon a time, it used to be sea voyage. In the modern fast paced day, it is by air.
Traveling is a sort of basic instinct and the philosophy of ‘grass is greener on the other side’ is the driving force that entices us to venture out into unknown territories. We hear stories from our friends and relatives about where they have been, what they have seen and done and, once bitten by the travel bug, we get the urge to pack the bag and move out.
Well – there are a few easy steps to fulfil that desire. Browsing the internet will throw up several sites that provide expert guidance on how to arrange for a perfect holiday. However, a few broad guidelines are –
1 Select the time of your tour
2 Select the destination
3 If you are employed, arrange for leave for the duration of the holidays
4 Go through travel websites to get the best possible air fare (or sea fare) options – many airlines offer huge discounts if booked couple of months in advance.
5 Locate the best available option for stay in a hotel – for this you should go through feedback of customers who have stayed in the hotel. This can be seen on the website of the hotel. These feedbacks can save you from surprises. Also, keep your near and dear ones posted about where you are.
6 Arrange for the necessary finance for the fare, lodging, and sightseeing and, always carry additional money to take care of emergencies
7 Check out for correctness and completeness of travel documents like passport, visa
8 Get a complete health checkup done by a Doctor for any signs of infection or disease
9 Know about the type of weather in the country that you have decided to visit – this will help you to carry necessary clothing with you
10 Read up books and magazines to learn about the culture of the country of your destination. If English is not the local dialect, then pick up some important and commonly used words of the local language – that will help to bond better with the locals.
11 Do not forget to carry the camera – photographs of places you visit and people you meet are a must for any tour and are always to be treasured. Also, a first aid kit and a length of stout rope should be within easy reach – you never know when you may need what. If you have kids accompanying you, never forget to keep handy what interests him (or her) the most. It could be books or games or toys.
12 If you are depending on travel agents to book your itinerary, you can get advantage of group bookings on airlines and hotels and other benefits when you go in for local sightseeing tours.
