Police admit that they cannot hold the sites accountable for people who get cheated by people they meet through them, but these are matters of concern. In the last one year, there are only six cases of people being cheated of their money by those they've met via matrimonial sites but, the actual number would be many times more because many do not report out of embarrassment of admitting having fallen into traps.
One of he latest pertains to an individual whose matrimonial profile said he was an orphaned doctor born and brought up in the UK. His victim shelled out nearly one lakh rupees as fees towards a costly gift the boy had reportedly sent for her as a gift. She lost her money and the gift never came - during investigation it was found that his profile was totally false.
A 38-year-old woman was cheated of Rs 38 lakhs by a gang - the gang made use of sophisticated latest gadgets and techniques.
