This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 5 March 2016.
A die hard angler had hooked a 15-Kg catfish earlier and had come back for an even bigger one because the Brahmaputra has many of those. Most of the anglers occupy the locations near the Neemati ferry ghat and it has gradually become an angler's paradise.
As a local fisherman observed, anglers from the city have been coming to fish in the Brahmaputra for the past several years but nowadays there is a noticeable change because, while earlier, they used to bring with them hand-made fishing rods, the trend now is to use modern fishing rods fitted with wheels.
The anglers jostle for space along the riverbank on Sundays and, as one of them has admitted, he has procured at least three fishing rods, all made in Sweden - these are strong and robust and can catch fish weighing more than 25-Kg. Thanks to exposures to various TV channels like Discovery and Animal Planet the demand for sophistication is on the rise.
