This has been reported in telegraphindia.com dated 25 December 2015.
Lunch in the jail usually consists of dal, vegetables and roti or rice, with non-vegetarian fare served once a week. In the month of May, the prisoners had gone on a hunger strike protesting the quality of the food.
Now, thanks to the initiative of Madan Mitra, the inmates would gorge on goodies. During the festival, the lunch menu would include dishes like chilli chicken, fried rice, momos, chicken pakoras and cakes. The breakfast and dinner would, however, be the usual fare.
The prisoners will be required to pay a token price for the food from their earnings in jail but a part of the money collected would be ploughed back into the prisoners' welfare fund.
