This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 15 September 2015.
It is estimated that there are nearly 350 sailing vessels including dhows from coastal villages of Saurashtra that operate in the Middle East, especially Yemen. Breakdown of this figure is 200 are from Jam Salaya near Jamnagar and 100 from Mandvi town of Kutch. Remaining vessels are from Porbandar, Veraval, Sikka, Bharana and Okha.
The general schedule is for at least one vessel to travel to Yemen daily with consignments of supplies like edible oil, salt, rice, flour, sugar and other essentials. Each boat has a cargo carrying capacity of 500-1,000 tonnes and the owners earn Rs 160 per tonne as freight charges.
That is a lot of money and Kutch is facing the effects of the crisis in Yemen.
