In the South – it would be the Engineers of Southern Rail who plan to strike for five days from 12 July because of a "comprehensive breakdown" in relations with bosses.
This has been reported in news.sky.com dated 3 July 2015.
RMT has indicated that 1,500 of its members were involved in the vote. There was anger over several issues like the removal of permanent posts and the creation of zero-hour jobs via a contract with a security company, cuts to booking offices and attacks on the role and responsibility of train guards.
Northern Rail is a 50:50 joint venture between Serco Group and Abellio and employs 4,900 workers and runs 2,500 services every weekday.
RMT has warned that the planned strike by engineers on Southern Rail would hit services with the walkout slated to begin from 5pm on 12 July. This move follows a vote in favor of strikes among union members at Southern, which operates commuter and other services between London and the Sussex coast.
The union has revealed that the row was related to productivity measures planned by the company.
