Paris to remove million plus lovelocks installed by lovers on Pont des Arts Bridge

The 155-m Pont des Arts Bridge overlooking the Eiffel Tower has one million plus padlocks that have been put on it by lovers and the sheer numbers are a cause of concern. Its combined weight of more than 45 tons is a danger because the bridge cannot take such a huge load. Portion of it had given way in the past and the authorities do not want to take chances.
This has been reported in news.sky.com date 1 June 2015.
The bridge is Paris’s most iconic bridge and the padlocks would be dismantled for good. It had been the tradition for couples to install the padlock and throw the keys into the Seine River below as proof of a lasting bond.
The loved-up couples have since been encouraged to take selfies in the French capital instead of inscribing their initials on locks and tossing the keys in the River Seine.
