They had asked 37 healthy volunteers to drink 500ml – around two glasses, or nearly a pint – of orange juice every day for eight weeks. The participants consisted of 24 women and 13 men aged 60 to 81.

At the end of the study period, there was significant improvements in brain function. The conclusions are that it takes less than two months to boost memory, speech and reaction times by close to 10 per cent.
Scientists attribute this o the presence of put the results down to the presence of flavonoids which is a natural substances available in plenty in oranges.
Dr Daniel Lamport of the Reading's school of psychology is the lead author of this study and, in his opinion, the population is ageing rapidly across the world. Tentative estimates would suggest that the number of people aged 60 or over could triple by 2100.
