IAF lands Mirage-2000 fighter jet on Yamuna Expressway

#YamunaExpressway #IAF #Mirage2000 The Indian Air Force landed one of its Mirage-2000 fighter jet on the Yamuna Expressway in order to check the adaptability of both the aircraft as well as the expressway for use as a landing strip or runway in the event of an emergency or in the event of war and hostilities.
This has been reported in ibnlive.com dated 21 May 2015.
The aircraft had taken off from one of the bases in central India, touched down at the expressway for a few seconds and then took off again leaving hundreds of onlookers surprised and puzzled. It was the culmination of the exercise of the IAF that has been going on for the past few days. The intention was to see whether fighter jets can take off or land from highways during emergency situations.
This is probably the beginning of activating more such stretches on highways in the future.
Incidentally, a number of other countries like Germany, Poland, Sweden, South Korea, Taiwan, Finland, Switzerland, Poland, Singapore, Czechoslovakia and even Pakistan have dedicated stretches on their expressways and highways for airplanes to land and take off in emergency or war like events.
